Programming for Students
The programs provided at rare are helping to bridge the gap between the classroom and the natural environment through experiential, investigative, hands-on learning.
 Future Programming at rare
In the Spring of 2010 rare will be offering a series of new environmental education school programs for Grades 4, 5, and 6 while offering a special grade 2 program on life cycles in our newly designed habitat gardens and living pond area at the rare administration centre.
Home to over 24 habitat types rare is an ideal location for curriculum based outdoor programming. Program design is such that elementary students will visit different habitat areas of rare as they return each year. Experiencing rare such a way will provide students with the opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, values, and motivation needed to become responsible environmental citizens. The “bigger picture” will be a key underlying theme to rare’s programming. Students will understand that the actions of today will greatly affect the outcomes of tomorrow.
Our school programs are designed and developed by our Manager of Education, a certified teacher with experience developing and delivering environmental education programs.
Interpretive Centre at rare
The construction of rare’s interpretive centre is expected to be completed by the early Spring of 2010. Built in the 1840s, the newly renovated slit barn will be a 3 season education facility designed to accommodate school groups, families, and various community organizations.
The building will serve as a trail head to access the interpretive Cliffs and Alvars trail system directly behind the barn. The interpretive centre will be also be used as a facility to host conferences, monthly events, meetings, etc….
